二年生草本。茎单生或丛生，直立，分枝或不分枝。基生叶莲座状，叶片近匙形，茎生叶腋生出不育短枝。花单性，雌雄异株，呈假轮伞状圆锥花序，花序枝对生；花萼钟形，紧贴果实，口张开，具10条纵脉；雌雄蕊柄短或无；花瓣白色，全缘，稀凹缺；副花冠缺；花柱3；种子肾形，表面具短线纹，脊具槽。
